James Council Tompkins returned from the war minus a leg. He is not listed in the 1870 census with his family but is in the 1870 Mortality Census Schedule as Council Tompkins, age 35, having died April 1870 of pneumonia.

     Samuel Francis Tompkins was the son of James M. Tompkins and Eliza Ann King. He married Martha Ann Patridge, daughter of Paten Patridge, on 15 April 1860 at Washington, Georgia, United States.¹ Samuel died on 4 January 1863 at Howard Grove Farm, Richmond, Virginia, United States.

Stephen B. Tompkins enlisted as a priveate on 10 September 1861. Appointed Color Corporal in 1863. Surrended at Greensboro, NC 26 April 1865.

     Joel Flanders Tompkins was the son of James M. Tompkins and Eliza Ann King. He married Mary E. Lord, on 13 October 1872 at Washington, Georgia, United States.¹ Joel died on 21 August 1908 at Washington, Georgia, United States, at age 60. His body was buried at Tanner Community Cemetery, Washington, Georgia, United States.²

     Mary I. Tompkins was the daughter of James M. Tompkins and Eliza Ann King. Mary died before 1860.

     Cullen Jackson Tompkins was the son of James M. Tompkins and Eliza Ann King. He married Mary Anne Elizabeth Lafayette Davis, daughter of Thomas Goodrum Davis and Minerva Warthen, on 10 January 1875 at Washington, Georgia, United States. Cullen died on 4 April 1902 at Washington, Georgia, United States, at age 51.

     Susan S. Tompkins was the daughter of James M. Tompkins and Eliza Ann King. She married Jasper P. Henderson, son of Levi Henderson and Elizabeth Archer, circa 1869 at Washington, Georgia, United States.
