William L. Townsend

M, b. circa 1811
William L. Townsend was the son of Benjamin Townsend and Ester (--?--). He married Mary (--?--) circa 1840.1
     Biography of William L. Townsend:

William L. Townsend appears in the 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses of Marlboro County, South Carolina. He has a family in 1850 but is living without family in the last three of those censuses. He also gives his age fairly consistently as being born about 1810. We believe this is the same person in all four censuses as no other William Townsend’s are found in those years in Marlboro County. We also believe he is the son of Benjamin Townsend (1788-1860) as he fits the position of a son born about 1810 in the household of Benjamin Townsend in the 1810 census. Also in 1880 he is living by himself next door to Franklin Townsend (1837- ) who is a grandson of Benjamin, thus inferring that William L. could be Franklin’s Uncle.
