Biography of Bernardino Toscano:
On 11 May 1906, Bernardino Toscano and 5 of his children, M. Guiseppa (Mary Josephine), Teresina (Theresa), Nicola (Nicolas), Antonetta and Pasqualinio (Charles) arrived in New York aboard the SS Sicilian Prince from Naples, Italy. Their last place of residence was Pietramelara. Interestingly, Concietta was not listed on the passenger list. Perhaps she came later.
In the 1910 Census of Lawrence Co. Pennsylvania, Bernardino (listed as Frank), his wife, Mary and four children are living at 403 South Jefferson St. in New Castle, Pennsylvania. At that time, Mary indicated she was the mother of 13 children of which 8 were still living. Thus there are other children of this couple that we have not identified.
In 1920, Bernardino Toscano and family resided at 806 South Mercer St. in New Castle. He was 72 years of age and worked as a laborer in the steel mill. Interestingly, living next door at 808 South Mercer St. was the family of Pasquale Toscano, age 42, his wife, Mary age 42 and five children age 13 to 3. It is not known what the relationship between Pasquale and Bernardino is but there is surely a close relationship. Perhaps, Pasquale is a brother.
