Franz Joseph Halter

M, b. 23 March 1785, d. before 1843
Franz Joseph Halter was the son of Sebastian Halter and Maria Barbara Drescher. He married Maria Anna Phoh, daughter of Anton Jacob Phoh and Eva Elisabeth Schmidt, on 5 November 1816 at Kirchhausen, Heilbronn, Württemberg, Germany.1 He died before 1843 at Likely Warsaw, Poland.2
     Biography of Franz Joseph Halter:

We believe that Joseph Halter listed as the father of Maurice, Wendelin and Joseph Halter in their Warsaw Poland Church marriage records is Franz Joseph Halter, who was baptized 23 Mar 1785 in the Catholic church in Kirchhausen, Wurttemberg. Franz Joseph Halter of that baptism record is the son of Sebastian Halter and Maria Barbara Drescher. He is the only Halter in the church records of Kirchhausen or nearby Biberbach that closely matches what we know about Joseph Halter of this biography. We have yet to locate records of Kirchhausen for the period 1810 to 1830 when Joseph married Maria Anna and had the three sons as well as possibly other children. We did find a reference where Maria Anna Phoh married Fr. Joseph Halter on 4 Nov 1816 in Kirchhaousen. We know that Maria Anna died in Warsaw in1843 and that Joseph was deceased at that time. Thus Joseph and his family removed from Kirchhausen to Warsaw sometime before 1843. We believe Franz Joseph died in Poland but have no record to support that belief. Our rationale is that it seems unlikely that Maria Anna Pfoh and her three young sons would have moved to Warsaw on their own without Franz Joseph.

Fryderyka Wagner1

F, b. circa 1820
Fryderyka Wagner was the daughter of Jan Marcin Wagner and Magdalena Augusta Boeker. She married Wendelin Halter, son of Franz Joseph Halter and Maria Anna Phoh, on 21 April 1844 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Warsaw, Masovia, Poland.2
     Biography of Fryderyka Wagner:

Wendelin Halter was probably born in the Catholic faith in Kirchhausen, Wuerttemberg, Germany about 1819. He probably came as a young man with his siblings to Warsaw in the early 1840’s. In 1844 he married Fryderyka Wagner at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Warsaw and converted to the Lutheran faith. The Wagner’s were from Baden and had been attending Holy Trinity since 1820 when Fryderyka’s parents were married there. All of Wendelin’s children were born in Warsaw and the family lived there until the mid-1870’s when the 5 children listed below and their spouses removed to Cleveland, Ohio. There probably were other children of Wendelin who remained in Poland and they are likely listed in the records of Holy Trinity Church. We estimate Wendelin died in Poland about 1860 as family records indicate he died before the birth of his son, Jacob.
