     Biography of Charles Townsend:

Charles Townsend served in the 2nd Florida Cavalry, Co. B & H, (b.1831 Lowndes Co.GA) enlisted at Palatka and transferred to Company B 6/8/63. He deserted after Camp Finegan was overrun 2/9/64 and reported to US authorities in April 1864. He had been hiding in McGirt's creek during the previous month. His obituary reads:

C. F. Townsend, 63 years of age, died at his residence in Orange Park yesterday morning. The funeral will take place this morning at 8 o'clock from the residence. The interment will be in Gravelly Hill cemetery, directed by Moulton & Kyle, undertakers. [Fla. Times Union, 4 Ma r 1913, p.19, col. 5.]

Mrs. C.F. Townsend, age 87 years, an old resident of Orange Park, died at her residence at an early hour yesterday morning. She is survived by 10 children, six sons and four daughters.
