Alexander Tompkins Obitutiary [per Jancie Bays]

     Last rites for Alexander Tompkins, who died at the Kilmichael Hospital February 4, were held at Poplar Springs Baptist Church Friday, February 5, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Homer McDonald of Poplar Creek officiating. Interment was in Poplar Springs cemetery under direction of - Oliver Funeral Home.

     Mr. Tompkins was born in Montgomery county, May 28, 1907. He had been ill for about a month.

     He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Tompkins, Sr; three sisters, Mrs. J. K. Walker, Mrs. W. T. Greenlee and Mrs. Olen Thomas; five brothers, Jimmie Tompkins, Homer Tompkins, Hugh Tompkins and Tommie Tompkins, all of Kilmichael; and W. E. Tompkins, Jr., French Camp.

     Pallbearers were Wayne Walker, Billy Tompkins, Clinton Tommikins. Bobby Greenlee, Jimmie Tompkins and Bodean Tompkins.

     Homer was born on 21 August 1909.1 He was the son of William Elijah Tompkins and Eliza Josephine Applewhite. Homer died on 4 February 1960 at age 50.

John Kelly Walker

M, b. 8 March 1898, d. December 1970
     John was born on 8 March 1898 at Mississippi, United States.1 He was the son of Duran William Walker and Jincy Rachel Green. He married Erma Tompkins, daughter of William Elijah Tompkins and Eliza Josephine Applewhite. John died in December 1970 at Montgomery, Mississippi, United States, at age 72.
     Biography of John Kelly Walker:
Kelly worked in the oil fields in Texas as a young man where he cut his hand on a barrel. He developed cancer along the scar. Then began a series of amputations trying to stay ahead of the cancer up to the elbow. He lived to age 70 when he had a fatal heart attack at lunch at his home in Poplar Creek, Mississippi. John Eldridge Leggette

     John was born on 21 August 1927 at Vredenberg, Alabama, United States.1 He was the son of Gertrude Mable Thompson. He married Allie Belle Walker, daughter of John Kelly Walker and Erma Tompkins, at Grenada, Mississippi, United States. John died on 7 January 1985 at Grenada, Mississippi, United States, at age 57. His body was buried at Memorial Gardens, Grenada, Grenada, Mississippi, United States.
     Biography of John Eldridge Leggette:
John's physical features: Not very tall person, very stocky, muscular build with lots of dark curly charcoal black hair and very light blue eyes. He loved hunting and fishing and woodworking.

     John was a lumber inspector for Memphis Hardwood Flooring in Grenada, Mississippi until he became disabled. John is buried at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Grenada, Mississippi.[Per Jancie Bays]
