Biography of Abraham Geiger:
Among the Switzers to arrive with John Tobler on Feb 5, 1737 from
Rotterdam were Hans Jacob Giger, Abraham Giger and Herman Giger. Hans Jacob and Abraham were brothers who were born in Berneck in the Canton of St. Gall, Switzerland. Herman was the son of Hans Jacob. September 1737, land grants in Saxe Gotha for 350, 300, and 200 acres were surveyed for Hans Jacob, Abraham and Herman Gyger. On Dec. 13, 1738, Abraham and Herman witnessed the will of Johannes Shetig (probably Abraham's brother-in-law). He likely lived in Saxe-Gotha Township from his arrival until about 1761.
Abraham Geiger was banished from South Carolina about 1761 as a result of involvement in the Weberite Heresy. He was apparently accused as one of the twelve Apostles of Jacob Weber, when Weber claimed to be God the Father. Weber was hanged for the brutal murder of John George Smithpeter, who was the Son of God in Weber's sect,as well as, another. Weber discovered after a quarrel with Smithpeter that he was the devil, without whose death there would be no peace; so Smithpeter was chained and piously beaten to death. A John Geiger was also found guilty (SC Gazette April 25, 1761). Four of Abraham's sons could have been called Hans (John). One of Abraham's family could have died or stayed in Europe before emigration in 1737. Geiger family Bible in Florida gives Abraham Geiger, born Mar. 4, 1690, died May 7, 1766. However, some research indicate died June 12, 1777 in Effingham Co . GA. [LexGenExchange Vol.II, bkII Fall 1982 pg.76-80]
Abraham may have moved near the Salzberger Community of Ebenezer in Georgia about 1761. He likely died there 7 May 1766.
