The earliest record of Jan Buřval is the 1653 marriage contract of Jan, son of Mikuláš Buřval of Sedliště to Salomena, daughter of Jan Rybáře. According to the contract, the Rybáře family had moved to Sedlište in 1639 where they agreed to purchase a farm owned by the Sedliesky family. Jan Rybáře likely agreed to pay so much a year until the purchase price was met and then he would own the farm. About 1653, Salomena’s father became ill and died on a trip to Moravia leaving Salomena as his heir. As the farm had not been fully paid for, Salomena was forbidden to marry. Thus, the marriage contract was about Jan assuming a debt of 25 kopecs on the farm in order to marry Salomena and become owner of the farm. Payment was guaranteed by Jan’s Uncle Jiři Buřval and Prokop Křižů, Mayor of Korouhev.

Josef was born in Vrist and worked as a “Hammernik” at one of the trip hammer mills in Vrist or Lisna most all his life. Josef's death record lists his cause of death as "seslost vekem" translated as decrepitude. He is listed as having died at house number 1 in Lisna, which is the center of town and is now the town community center. He is also described as "vdovec a podruh ve dvore v Lisne".
