Vol. Inf. - captured Spotsylvania 12 may 1864 - escaped, rejoined Co. and captured again on 10 Mar 1865 at Petersburg, Va. - Union records show he is still a prisoner to this day. Stokes entered CSA 18 March 1862 in Carroll Co., Georgia. On 13 May 1862, reenlisted as part of CSA re-organization, in Co. H, 56th Reg., Ga. Vol. Inf., Army of Tennessee. Captured by the U. S. Grant command at Vicksbury, Mississippi on 4 July 1863. Paroled 4 days later on 8 July 1863. Went home to Georgia. [Hahn - Hardie Family Records]
