Day Book of John R. Kelly
December 27, 1888
This is a translation of the typed copy of the Day Book of John R. Kelly (1847-1932) of Taylor County, Florida. John R. Kelly was a active leader in the Methodist Church, a Superintendent of Schools and owned a store in Taylor County. He recorded church minutes and attendance at New Hope and Spring Warrior Church, he recorded teachers salaries and student enrollment in school and in "Sabbath" school and recorded numerous credit purchases of goods from his store from various individuals. There are hundreds of Taylor County individuals named in this record..
This book has been translated into the typed copy below and is reproduced here with the permission of Laura J. Platter, great granddaughter of John R. Kelly. Laura Platter is the owner of and has the original Day Book is her possession. She inherited the Day Book from her mother, Cornelia Kelly Jefferson, who inherited it from her father James H. Kelly, son of John R. Kelly. Laura Platter can be reached at the address below:

Translation Comments:
Because of the condition of the pages and calligraphy that is hard to decipher, my transcription may not be absolutely faithful. but I have tried to be accurate and to give an idea of how things are written and in what kind of format. Exactly who ran the store and where it was is unclear. Any information on this would be appreciated. Also on the other businesses mentioned (whose names I am not sure of). Any other help or information would also be welcome.
There are also scribbles of figures, as though the pages were used for scratch paper, and two more versions of J. R. Kelly. There seem to be several different handwritings.
The book has deteriorated, so that the earliest pages are missing, the ink has faded or become water-spotted here and there, and most pages are damaged with rusty-colored bloom. Consequently they do not copy well.
Translators comments are in brackets ( ).
