b. circa 1790, d. circa 1857 Pop-up Pedigree Relationship=Son of William Sullivan.
William was born circa 1790 at Georgia.2 He was the son of William Sullivan and Mary Elizabeth (--?--). He married Lydia Peacock, on 23 March 1813 at Bulloch Co., Georgia.1 William died circa 1857 at Worth Co., Georgia.3
William's occupation: Farmer. Biography of William Sullivan: William Sullivan (1790-1857) is the son of William Sullivan (c1755-c1840). The earliest record we have found of William (1790-1857) is dated July 1812 where William Sullivant, Sr. and William Sullivant are listed on the Direct Tax Digest of Montgomery County, Georgia as listed in the "Republican and Savannah Evening Ledger" of 14 July and 28 July 1812. On 23 March 1813 a licence was granted to William Sillavant to be married to Lidda Peacock by Stephen McCoy, C.C.O.. This record is recorded on page 174 in Bulloch County, Georgia Marriage Record Book 1A. As was the case with most of the other marriage licences recorded in this book, there was no return or other indication to show that the marriage took place or the date that it took place. William and his family could not be clearly identified in the 1820 Census of Georgia. There are two William Sullivan's listed as Heads of Household in 1820. One William in Montgomery County is undoubtedly the family of William (c1755-c1840). The other is a William age 26-45 listed in Emanuel County. This could be William (1790-1857) although there are no females of Lydia's age listed in this record. Emanuel County was formed out of Montgomery County in 1812 with its border with Montgomery County along Pendelton Creek where the Sullivan families lived. Thus these families are likely related. Also William (1790-1857) continues to appear in the records of Montgomery County after 1820 suggesting that he and his family were possibly enumerated with his father in 1820. A William Sulivan Jr. from Montgomery County won Lot 128-9 in Monroe County, Georgia in the 1821 Land Lottery. What happened to this land has not been traced to determine if William Jr. ever moved onto it. By 1830, William Sullivan Jr and Sr are listed as head of family in the Lee County, Georgia Census. In 1840, William Sullivan, age 50-60, is listed as head of household in Lee County, Georgia. In 1850, William Sylovint, age 60, born Georgia is listed with the family of his son, Wm. Sylovint age 22 in the Irwin Co. Georgia Census Prior to residing in Irwin County in 1850, William likely lived in Florida. This is borne out by the following notes taken by Judge Guy McClain of Lafayette County, Florida on 10 Jan 1953. "I visited John Sullivan, aged and blind at Alton, Fla. He said his father was John Sullivan and his grandfather William Sullivan. They came from southern part of Georgia and drove a herd of cattle first to Payne's Prairie south of Gainesville, lost most of the cattle. Stayed there about 2 years. They then came to Lafayette Co., then Madison or Jefferson Co. about 1847 settled on place now owned by Harry Putnal..." [Notes copied by Gladys Altman, who in turn sent them to Estelle Lencses, who in turn sent them to the authors] This is further supported by the marriage record of William Manning Sullivan (1828-1883) to Rebecca Shiver in Alachua Co., Florida in 1847 and the fact that William Sullivan (1790-1850) is found living with his sons, William Manning Sullivan family in 1850 in Irwin County, Georgia. Shivers are also found living nearby. An extraction of the Albany Patriot Newspaper of 19 November 1857 contained the following legal notice: "William Sullivan makes application to this court for letters of guardianship on the person and property of Solomon, Clemont T. and Elminia Sullivan, minors of William Sullivan, deceased." This is the last public record of William (1790-1857) that the authors have been able to find. It is thus assumed that William died about 1857 in Worth County, Georgia. " [Evans, Tad, Albany, Georgia, Newspaper Clippings, Vol. II 1853-1860 ]

b. 1816, d. 20 September 1884 Pop-up Pedigree Relationship=Grandson of William Sullivan.
William was born in 1816 at Bulloch Co., Georgia. He was the son of William Sullivan and Lydia Peacock. William died on 20 September 1884 at Dougherty Co., Georgia.
Biography of William Sullivan: This William Sullivan(1816-1884) has not been researched by the authors. The authors are uncertain that this William is the son of William (1790-1857). However, Mrs. Lensces had included him in this family. It also make some sense that the first born male of this family would be named William. It does not explain why there are two William's in this family as there seems ample proof that William Manning Sullivan (1828-1883) is also certainly a son of William (1790-1857). Citations

b. circa 1755, d. after 1840
William was born circa 1755 at South Carolina. He married Mary Elizabeth (--?--), circa 1780.1 He married Martha Ann (--?--), circa 1810.1 William died after 1840 at Lee Co., Georgia.
Biography of William Sullivan: The Sullivan name in this family often appears as Sullivant in early records. Most records for this family after 1850 use the Sullivan spelling. There are a number of records on William Sullivan in Georgia in the late 1700's and early 1800's. Unfortunately, they are not definitive enough to always show that they are the records of William Sullivan (c1755-c1840), the progenitor of this family. The earliest William Sullivan records are eight entries contained in "Revolutionary Bounty Land Records of the State of Georgia" by N. M. O'Kelley and M. B. Warren (Athens Ga: Heritage Papers 1992). These entries dated between 15 March 1784 and 17 May 1784 are issued bounty land warrants in Washington County, Georgia to citizens, militia and soldiers of Georgia. It was not necessary that the applicant for a bounty land warrant be a soldier in the Revolutionary War. William Sullivan is listed in these records as having served under Colonel Elijah Clarke, which strongly suggests that this William was indeed a Revolutionary War soldier or at the least a member of the militia. William Sullivan (c1755-c1840) could very well be the person listed in these records and could very well have been a revolutionary soldier. However, the lack of any other records, in particular, application for federal pension in the early 1800's suggest that this William of the Revolution is not in fact William (c1755-c1840) discussed below. Further work needs to be done on this matter. The authors are aware of six other land deed or bounty grants involving William Sullivan prior to 1800. Two are recorded in Greene County, Georgia. One dated 23 Sep 1787, shows William of Richmond County selling land. One dated 5 Aug 1788 shows William of Wilkes County selling land. Four grants are recorded on page 633 of "Index to Headright and Bounty Grants of Georgia (1756-1909) " by Rev. Silas E. Lucas, Jr. (Greenville, SC: Southern Historical Press, Inc. Reprinted 1992). They are in 1785 for 287 1/2 acres in Washington Co., in 1788 for 200 acres in Richmond Co, in 1793 for 300 acres in Richmond Co., and in 1794 for 32 acres in Columbia Co. These and the other records discussed above are not definitive enough to identify which William or even the number of individuals named William Sullivan these records represent. The first record of William Sullivan (c1755-c1840) is his listing on the tax rolls of Montgomery County, Georgia in 1798. He is also listed on several Jury and Tax lists and in a few court documents of Montgomery County during 1800-1812. On 14 Dec 1807 a William Sullevant bought 100 acres on Pendelton Creek in Montgomery County, Georgia from William Edwards for $100. This deed was witnessed by Soloman Story and Henry Sulevant and recorded in Montgomery Co. Deed Book H, p. 135-7 on 19 Dec 1812. This deed is William's first recorded purchase of land. On 6 Mar 1812, William Sulevant sold this same land to Abel Akredge for $200. This deed of sale was witnessed by John Sulevant and William Silivant and recorded on 19 Dec 1812 in Deed Book H, p, 139-140. These are the only deeds that the authors have found that appear to relate to William Sullivan (1755-1842). William and his family next appear in the 1820 Census of Montgomery County, Georgia. He also appears on several tax lists and jury lists in Montgomery County during the period 1821 to 1824. He is not on the tax list for Montgomery County in 1827-1829, thus suggesting he moved out of Montgomery County about 1827. In 1830, he is listed as William Sullivan, Sr. living with his family next to the William Sullivan Jr. family in Lee County, Georgia. In the 1840 Census of Lee County, Georgia there is a male listed as age 80-90, living with the George F. Sullivan family. This male, age 80-90, is believed to be William Sullivan (c1755-c1840). There being no further records found on William after the 1840 Census, as well as his age being in the 90's, the authors have assumed a date and place of death of circa 1840 in Lee County, Georgia for William. The names of William Sullivan's wives and children as listed below in this genealogy were obtained from Ms. Estelle V. Lencses of Miami, Florida. They are based on a summary of Ms. Lencses collection and compilation of Sullivan records. Unfortunately, Ms. Lencses had lost a box of Sullivan records and has thus not been able to document the make-up of this family. The authors have not attempted to confirm that these are the wives and children of William Sullivan (c1755-c1840). They are included here as a POTENTIAL make-up of this family to serve as a basis for further research by the authors and others.
