He married Elizabeth Lord, daughter of Levin Lord and Esther (--?--), on 7 August 1848 at Washington, Georgia, United States.³ Robert died on 24 January 1883 at Washington, Georgia, United States, at age 53.⁴

Mr. Robert Tompkins, who for several months has been in very bad health, died on Wednesday night, about 55 years of age. Mr. Tompkins was a confederate soldier and member of Martins Battery. He was coroner of this county for the last two yers. His wife and sister-in-law, who resided at his house and one or two children died if we mistake not, last year.

     George was born in 1865.¹ He was the son of Robert T. Tompkins and Laura Louisa Jane Brock.
