     Biography of Early Benton Tanner Sr.:
Hughie Tanner, grandson of E.B. Tanner, Sr, remembers growing up on the "home place" in Washington Co., GA, owned by Ma Tanner and Pa Tanner (EB and Trudy). He remembers spending summers working in the cotton fields and how the girls in the family would duck down behind the cotton plants when they would hear a car coming down the red clay roads, not wanting anyone to know they were working in the fields.

     He tells of remembering the family grocery store located on one corner of the family farm. The family owned land at all four corners of a nearby crossroads. However, when he went back to visit (in the 1990's) the remains of the old store were on the adjacent corner. When he asked Aunt Mildred about it, she reminded him that the original store had burned down and then been rebuilt on the existing site.

     Family would work the fields from early in the morning until Ma Tanner rang the dinner bell for the midday meal. It was usually a large, hot meal, quickly consumed. After eating they would turn their straight-backed chairs around and lay them on the floor against the wall, forming a makeshift bed where they would nap until returning to the fields.      Wyman Lamar Tanner Sr. was born on 22 February 1926 at Washington, Georgia, United States. He was the son of Early Benton Tanner Sr. and Gertrude S. Scott. He married Verna Jean Baker, on 21 March 1949. He died on 29 May 1999 at Washington, Georgia, United States, at age 73. He was buried at Antioch Christian Church Cemetery, Oconee, Washington, Georgia, United States.¹

     Christine was born on 9 August 1911 at Washington, Georgia, United States.¹ She was the daughter of Early Benton Tanner Sr. and Gertrude S. Scott. She married Oscar Kelly Tompkins, son of William Thomas Tompkins and Willie Heath, on 20 July 1929 at Washington, Georgia, United States.² She married William Binion Prosser, son of Samuel O. Prosser and Melissa Cook, on 23 June 1938.³ Christine died on 7 December 1992 at Baldwin, Georgia, United States, at age 81.³ Her body was buried at Memory Hill Cemetery, Milledgeville, Baldwin, Georgia, United States.³

     Verna was born on 21 March 1932.¹ She married Wyman Lamar Tanner Sr., son of Early Benton Tanner Sr. and Gertrude S. Scott, on 21 March 1949. She died at Washington, Georgia, United States. She was buried at Antioch Christian Church Cemetery, Oconee, Washington, Georgia, United States.²

     Wyman was born on 5 January 1949.¹ He was the son of Wyman Lamar Tanner Sr. and Verna Jean Baker. He died in 2001.²
