Biography of Jasper S. Parker:
The following information about the death of Jasper S. Parker was part of an article written in the Mayo Free Press of January 19, 1989, p. 9.
"Fred P. Parker was the son of Jasper Parker. Jasper Parker's wife was Lolar. Children of Jasper and Lolar Parker were (1) Taft Parker, (2) Fred P. Parker, (3) Masie Parker, (4) Della (Parker) (Pert) Carroll, and (5) Lillie (Parker) Armstead. Jasper Parke built his log home in 1885. It was located in the middle of the farm on the highway running from Mayo Junction to Dowling Park. He had a cistern to furnish water for the house. His pump was still in use in the 1960"......"
" Jasper Parker was shot at a county frolic (party) - some people say it was a knife duel - at the old Ben Hightower farm about 3 1/2 miles Southeast o Day, in Lafayette County, by Bill Lyle, who was drunk. Jasper's wife Lolar had urged him not to go to the frolic, but he went anyway. After the shooting, with a lot of commotion around, Bill Lyle asked what all the commotion was about. Upon being informed that he had just shot Jasper Parker, he expressed amazement, "What, did I shoot my best friend?" He was so drunk he didn't even know what he had done. Jasper Parker, after being shot, and not knowing how serious the wound was, expressed the desire to go home to see one of the children. Several fellows, including Tom Fielding, were taking him home in a wagon. When they got to the creek just North of Mayo Junction, Jasper wanted to get out of the wagon and lie down for a few minutes. He died while lying there. The year of Jasper's death was 1895. Lolar remarried Mack Newmans, Burton Clard, a fourth husband, then died a widow."
